Dr. Alex Gilmore DVM PhD

Hello I am Dr. Alexandra Gilmore and moved to Waiheke Island 6 years ago. It all started off with Vets on Waiheke on Putiki Road and we now have expanded over to Waiheke Vets in Oneroa. I'm originally from Germany (I graduated in Germany 2004), but to combine my passion for traveling and veterinary I became a vet here in New Zealand. The path to come here wasn`t always easy, as I had to re-sit all my veterinary exams and fight a battle with New Zealand's immigration office at the same time. Running two vet practices and a family- yes life has become very busy, but we just love what we do!
When I'm not working I enjoy going to the cinema or the gym, photography, reading, pottery, traveling or just simply walking the dog down a beach or socializing with friends. Since recently- its also our little son Eden who is turning 4 years soon.
Looking back at my life and what I´ve done with it so far, I think, I can be pretty proud: working at a couple different companion animal clinics all over Germany, traveling the world to Australia, South Africa, India (where I also done some of my practical training and volunteer work), America, Europe (that's an easy one, as I am from there!), writing my PHD in sit here now and watch the sun set over Waiheke Island.....isn't really bad after all.

Dr. Heather Reeder BVSc

I graduated from Veterinary School in 1998 and then worked in a practice in Auckland. My husband and I decided we would like to work overseas, so we both found work in England and stayed there for the next 4 years. We came back to NZ and I spent time raising my two children; Keelan and Maddison. I have a long association with Waiheke Island and I am enjoying working here. My family and I have been living on the island for over 2 years now.

Dr. Alisdair Eddie BVSc

Hi Folks! I’m Alisdair, the newest veterinary addition to the Vets on Waiheke team and a recent graduate from Massey University. I’m really enjoying living here on Waiheke Island and exploring all the things to do in this beautiful spot.

I also enjoy working with all animals great and small, and I look forward to meeting you and your furry and feathered companions. Cheers Alisdair

Nursing Staff

Lisa Vingoe -Senior Vet Nurse RVN

Hi i'm Lisa, Waiheke born and bred. I've worked for Vets on Waiheke  since I graduated in 2013. I'm a typical vet nurse and live at work but on the off chance i'm not there I can be found with my menagerie of cats and pets or with my horses Levi and Ford.

Glenda Gouws - Senior Vet Nurse

After a diverse career all around the world, I settled in NZ, qualified as a Vet Nurse, and turned my focus from business management and human care to animal care. My heart is drawn to animal welfare, disaster relief and improving the human-animal bond, so I have done further studies in Animal Welfare Emergency Management at Massey and continue to do emergency skills courses as a volunteer with Animal Evac NZ.  I love how Vet Nursing opens up so many doors to making a difference in the lives of animals and communities and I am very privileged to also be part of SPAW (South Pacific Animal Welfare) and have the opportunity to join international volunteer vet teams, offering free vet clinic services in Tonga, Fiji and Samoa every year.

Nicole Senasac - Receptionist

I moved to New Zealand almost 6 years ago. Having recently retired form commuting and corporate life I am returning to my passion, Veterinary Care. I bring with me 12 years veterinary nursing experience form the USA.

Myriam Borrego - Vet Nurse

Hi, my name is Myriam. I am Spanish qualified vet nurse and this career is taking me to places that I would never imagined I would be to!

First, I spent one month volunteering in a seal hospital  in the Netherlands. After graduating in Spain, I spent a few months doing work experience as a zoo keeper in Madrid where I got the chance to meet awesome animals ( penguins, meerkats, capybaras, pelicans, etc). After working for a small vet clinic, my desire to travel and to grow in my career took me to Sydney. I became a qualified vet nurse in Australia and I spent the last three years living in Sydney. Now my career has led me to this beautiful and lovely island here in New Zealand. I can’t wait to explore this amazing country!

Besides spending time with animals, I love traveling, bush walking, swimming at the beach, learning about other cultures, spending a lot of time listening to music and trying to learn how to play the ukulele and going around taking pictures.

Victoria Hicks - Vet Nurse RVN

Hi, my name is Victoria Hicks and I graduated from Otago Polytechnic with a diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2019. When I graduated, I owned my own little mobile vet Nursing Business until Dr. Alex Gilmore gave me a call to whisk me away to Beautiful Waiheke Island. A little bit about me -I was born in Brazil and came to NZ when I was a toddler, thankfully, I can still speak Portuguese! I love to travel and hope to do a lot more in the next few years. I am a huge cat lover; I have two cats back in Hamilton as well as a Miniature Pinscher/Fox Terrier cross who are being very well taken care of by my wonderful fiancé back in Hamilton. I would love to work with wildlife one day, particularly Big cats, Birds and maybe Snakes!... Feeling the Bindi Irwin vibes.
